I was born with a book in my hand. Ok, not quite, but seriously, I’ve loved books as long as I can remember.

This one time in grade 4 I remember writing a fiction book about rabbits and I was doing all sorts of research to find out how to get it published. Oh man, if my 10-year-old self lived today, she’d have published so.many.books by now.

As an avid self-proclaimed author and obsessive reader, I’ve read my fair share of great books. It wasn’t until I started my own pet jewelry biz in 2005 in my early years of entrepreneur-ing that I realized there was more than just fiction. There was this whole world of ‘self-help’ books!

I was blown away that you could actually keep learning even when school was done! And could continue to grow yourself even after your body had stopped growing. This was all new to me! I was determined to read all the books.

6 ways reading directly benefits your business

6 Ways Reading Directly Benefits Your Business

  1. You get inspired. There’s something about a good success story that gets us moving. It’s common to get stuck in a rut in our business, but getting inspired means.
  2. Your mindset shifts. Books have a way of moving your thoughts into a better place.
  3. You get much more creative. The ideas that are generated from a good read are endless. If I’m feeling low in the creative vibes, I read a chapter of a good biz book.
  4. You realize you aren’t alone. You know how sometimes you feel like you’re the only one who crushes an entire chocolate bar on the bathroom floor when you’re emotional? Turns out we aren’t alone! I learned that in a book.
  5. You’re more positive. If you read a book about an entrepreneur who lost everything and came back to take it all on again with success, you can’t help but feel more positive about the fact that your Frankincense roller broke all over the floor.
  6. Your writing skills improve. We all send emails, make social media posts, and connect through our writing.

Over the 15 years of business reads, I’ve gathered a few favs. Some of these could not be more helpful in your business and I knew I needed to share them with you all.

The Success Principles by Jack Canfield

This was one of the early books I read. We also attended a seminar Jack lead back in 2009 that really inspired me and were based on his book. There are 64 principles in this book and I implement 4 of them every year. Can you IMAGE where you could be by doing the same?

The 5AM Club by Robin Sharma

Robin was the first author I read on my entrepreneur journey. This is his latest book and I love how he’s always kept a consistent theme of getting up an hour before the rest of the world. It’s been a game-changer in my business and this book has a story that follows through all the lessons Robin teaches.

A little mention here of another book: The Miracle Morning for Network Marketers. Same premises from above – get your morning groove on! Since this is not a top 11 list, I thought I’d just leave this book here.

The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen

I love this book so much because it breaks down the idea that every little thing we do over time is what creates MASSIVE results. But because they’re so seemingly insignificant, most people just aren’t doing these small things. THIS is where you can have the slight edge on others – doing those easy daily tasks to create massive success.

Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuck

I first heard about Gary Vee back in 2008 when my hubby attended a conference when he spoke. Since then we’ve been fans of his truthful, in-your-face-type style of teaching entrepreneurialism. Crush It is such an easy read – I read the whole thing one day on the beach. My 10 year old has even read chapters from it. It’s a motivating book about building a successful business with your passion and has been followed up recently with his latest book, Crushing It.

Judgment Detox by Gabrielle Bernstein

We live in a world of constant judgment and comparing – mostly of ourselves. Am I right? Mmmmhmmm. In this book, Gabby presents a series of practices that will allow you to live happier and more joyful as you recognize and release judgments and come from a place of love.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

An oldie, but a goodie, this book has stood the test of time! It took me forever to read it because I had hangups about money and felt the title was assumptive. Holy judgment, Batman! Taking years to interview the millionaires of the very early 1900s, Napoleon Hill breaks down the key thought processes and laws of success. I can’t believe it took me so long to read this one. It’s a MUST on everyone’s shelves!

Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

I’m new to Rachel Hollis, but she’s hilarious! I love the way she writes, most especially because I feel like it’s the way I write. The same way I speak. And there’s just something about a mama who tells it like it is without shame. I loved this book because it reminds us all to stop playing small and to jump all in without regrets. And it’s super funny.

No Excuses! by Brian Tracy

Oh, excuses. How deceiving you are to us! In Brian’s book, he speaks to the power of self-discipline in 21 different ways – from our personal lives to money to our businesses. With simple exercises at the end of each chapter, this is a perfect mix of reading and taking action steps. Don’t make excuses (see what I did there?) and just read the book!

Go Pro: 7 Steps to Becoming a Network Marketing Professional by Eric Worre

I’ll admit, I had this book when I first started my dōTERRA business and didn’t read it for the first year. Why? Because I was in COMPLETE denial that I was in network marketing. I truly disliked the entire model (due to many past experiences) and I was super embarrassed to even have the book on my shelf. BUT when I finally read through it (and even went to Vegas to attend Eric Worre’s Go Pro event), it changed my entire outlook. It’ such a simple and quick read and outlines the main steps to run a network marketing business.
